Updating StarkOne

Check for Updates

The dashboard automatically checks dl.starkone.io/version.txt and displays an update badge when a newer version is available.

You can also check via API:

curl -s https://<server>:2087/api/version | python3 -m json.tool

Response:

{
  "version": "8.7.7",
  "latest": "8.7.7"
}

Self-Update via Panel

  1. Navigate to Settings → Updates
  2. Click Update StarkOne
  3. The panel downloads the new binary, applies database migrations, and restarts automatically

Self-Update via CLI

starkone-cli selfupdate

This is equivalent to clicking the update button in the panel. The CLI:

  1. Downloads the new binary from dl.starkone.io
  2. Verifies the MD5 checksum
  3. Replaces /usr/sbin/starkone-panel
  4. Restarts the starkone.service
  5. Applies any pending database migrations on next startup

Manual Update

If the automatic update fails:

# Download the latest binary
curl -fsSL https://dl.starkone.io/install.sh | bash

Or download and replace manually:

systemctl stop starkone
curl -fsSL https://dl.starkone.io/binaries/starkone-panel -o /usr/sbin/starkone-panel
chmod +x /usr/sbin/starkone-panel
systemctl start starkone

System Package Updates

StarkOne can also apply OS-level package updates:

  • Panel → Settings → System Updates - shows available packages and applies them
  • Available to superusers only

Update Rollback

StarkOne does not ship a built-in rollback mechanism. Before major updates:

  1. Take an LVM snapshot: Settings → LVM Snapshots → Create
  2. Or take a system backup: Settings → Backups → Create Backup
